BEHIND THE LENS

Photography went from being just a mere curiosity in middle school to my major in college (SUNY Purchase). Although I have not pursued photography as my career, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity of being hired as a photographer for multiple events, and as a teacher's assistant while studying at SUNY Purchase.

It's easy for anyone to just pick up a camera, point and shoot. No matter how tech savvy you are or how new and expensive your camera is, the creativity, passion and intuitive eye behind the camera are the fundamental elements.

My style of shooting varies on the subject and whether I choose to shoot in digital or film. I never take my framing for granted. All aspects of my photographs are intentionally included. I want all of my photographs to be aesthetically beautiful and pleasing to the viewer.

The theme I specifically enjoy working with are shadows and reflections, they’re minimal things we overlook in life. I find the simple details that lights project and cast  to be extremely beautiful. I feel truly fulfilled when I have evoked the viewers' mind to race with a million different thoughts when viewing my photographs.

As I shoot a photo I know exactly what I want it to look like and how it’s going to come out. When I go through my photos I vividly remember the exact location, who I was with and what I was feeling and thinking at that very moment. There’s always a small amount I fall in love with.

Black and white photographs contain such a mysterious feelallowing the viewer to endure infinite amounts of emotions.

Black and white is mysteriously beautiful.

Adding color to a photograph completely alters the way it is portrayed to and perceived by the viewer. Color gives a photograph character and personality.

The art one creates is truly a projection of ones subconscious mind in that very exact moment in time.

Whether I’m in the darkroom developing or editing my photos on my computer, I lose myself in my work. I can spend hours on end producing my artwork; it's as if I’m in my own little world. Photography is and always has been extremely therapeutic for me. It allows me to express and project my emotions into a visual form.
